Getting Ready For The Concert 11/30/2011
OK...so I'm learning some things about myself: 1. Keeping up with a blog is a lot harder than I thought it would be! 2. I need to dedicate more time to this reflection. As I sit and think about the day we just completed, I'm amazed at the progress of the kids. I honestly can say that this will be one of our finest concerts. All fo the grades are donig well. We are, of course, no ready yet but I'm starting to hear some sounds that are beyond the notes and rhythms. Kids are actually "getting it" and working hard during class. More often than not I have students tell me how tired they are after band. THAT'S GREAT! I love watching the kids grow as musicians and people. I have a great job! Add Comment Week 3 09/23/2011
It's hard to believe that we've only been in school for 14 days! We are well in the swing of things and all the bands are doing a great job. The 8th graders are getting better and better at the Pumpkin Fest song and marching with good technique and effort. We are really trying to "step up" our effort so that we can acheive a higher level of performance. The 7th graders received their first concert band band song. Usually I give the band an easy tune to start out with, but this band is moving so quickly I decided to challenge them right off the bat. I'm excited to hear what Monday will bring! The 6th graders are all doing well. Everyday we have more right notes, less squeeks, and more fun. It's always rewarding to hear "Hot Cross Buns" and "Jingle Bells" take shape. Please be sure to read the announcements for the quizzes coming up. You should hear lots of musical sounds in your house right now! Did we really get that far? 09/16/2011
We have just finished our second week of school and I can't believe how well the kids are doing. The 8th graders have passed a memorization quiz on "I'm a Believer" for the Pumpkin Fest Parade". The 7th graders have gone through all the review and moved on to 'cut time'. The 6th grade woodwinds and brass have started their instruments and are even working on their first 'real' sond, "Hot Cross Buns"! The 6th grade percussion are up to their second playing test, #26 in the book, and doing a fantastic job! It is great to work with such hard working kids! |
